I moved here in December 1991 to go to graduate school in marketing communications. I was primarily interested in sports/event marketing. But while in school I was exposed to the Internet via the Apple Media Research Lab which was operating in Boulder. When I got my degree in December 1993 I decided to stay because Boulder was both a sports and a tech town.

Boulder has a small town size (I can walk or bike to everything I need), but big city/international resources. It's cool to live in a place where people want to come visit. And you can connect with people who are as bright and accomplished as you can find in any world-class center. In other words, the quality of life here is wonderful. All we are missing is a beach, but then again we don't have the bugs that you get living by the water.

Great post! For me, I would also add the size and feel of the town. I love the feel of a small town - bumping into friends randomly on the street - like seeing you today by The Cup :) I love the quaintness of Boulder too, love the architecture and all the old victorian houses. We are all lucky to live here!

Andrew, you nailed it. In addition to everything you said, Boulder just feels cozy and right, as compared to the sterile developments you see in other places. So let's keep the developers from wrecking Boulder--as they've started to do in the Canyon corridor. There's a good boulder.me project.

I think you hit all the big reasons for me. One other is the proximity to the mountains. You implied it, but for me, even Denver is too far from the mountains. I love walking out my door and running trails. Hiking 30 minutes and feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere. It's a huge part of what makes this place special.
