A headline just made me wonder, how can you ‘die’ ??? I know people can die in explosions and such, but how does one ‘die’ ??? The headline:

I can see how you can use the single quotation marks (double quotes are more common in the US) for describing unfamiliar or debatable terms. Here is an example, again from the BBC:
US navy captures Somali ‘pirates’
The ‘pirates’ is in quotes possibly because the Somali ‘pirates’ might call themselves Ship Lords or Teletubbies for all we know. It is not a definitely agreed upon term, which makes sense to me.
But how is ‘die’ not definite?
