Wild Gift (Yes, It Rocks)

The Wild Gift is an organization that I am an absolute fan of.  They find smart folks they view as future leaders, then take them out to have an amazing experience in the wilderness, and then encourage and fund hem to do a year long project with a focus on wilderness and education.

Their mission:

Our Mission is to give exceptional leaders, ages 21-30, a compelling experience in deep wilderness and the support to launch a self-designed project that promotes the stewardship of wild nature and development of sustainable communities. By 2015, we will support a network of 50 leaders working collaboratively to achieve our core values and beliefs.

Some of the service projects have been very interesting.  Some of the projects have been Eco Expressions and Falling Sky Farm.

This is the organization that sent me to the Wrangell St. Elias range in Alaska to backpack and explore some of the most remote wilderness in the world, and to Eagle Alaska to help build a cabin (with a chainsaw mill and all).

It is mentorship with appreciation for wilderness.

Today, they meet in Sun Valley Idaho to raft down the Middle Fork of the Salmon river with other alumni.  Sadly, I couldn’t make the trip this year.  I wish Bob, Pete, Sara and the rest of the crew all the best.
