Earlier this year I spent a week in Middlesbrough, England. It was a random opportunity that let me visit both The Difference Engine (like TechStars, much better accents) and Graphic.ly (digital graphic novels and TechStars alumni).

Yes, that is a building built over 200 years ago with a check cashing company in it.
This is the graphic.ly office in a government built ‘let’s make this area have some startup energy’ building. Just an amazing facility.

What struck me about NorthEast England was the absolute kindness of strangers and the hunger for new industry. Kevin, Thanavath and Jon were fantastic hosts and really made the trip worthwhile.
Places like this, where life is simple and relationships matter, make me really happy.
