Apply to the Knight News Challenge

I am a screener (read: judge of sorts) for this, if I know you, I won’t be able to look at your application.

Alright, November 1, 2008 is the last day you can submit an application to the Knight News Challenge.

$5,000,000 is being given away to fund innovative ideas that address the following points:

  1. Use or create digital, open-source technology as the code base.
    (pretty straight forward!)
  2. Use news and information to serve the public interest.
(This is sponsored by a news organization)
  3. Benefit one or more specific geographic communities.
(For the common good of a specific place, this is really important!)
  4. Be innovative.
(The hardest of the 4.  A map mashup is not innovative, a blog is not innovative, a film is not innovative.  Dream big here.  The sky is the limit)

Can you think of anything that meets every single point?

Think about it.  Tell your friends.  Tell your friends friends.  Twitter and blog about it.  We are giving $5,000,000.00 away, and it is going to a those with a strong passion to build something.

Don’t regret not applying November 2.  Apply today.
