Starting with a quote from Lawrence Lessig :
We have a massive system to regulate creativity. A massive system of lawyers regulating creativity as copyright law has expanded in unrecognizable forms, going from a regulation of publishing to a regulation of copying.
I have always said to myself “I would do more creative stuff if I had better gear.” At one point, I got all the gear I could ask for, and I still wasn’t the creative juggernaut I thought I would be. A simple realization:
It is not the gear stupid (oh how James Carville of me).
So here is the challenge. As a community let’s take on a challenge to create some beautiful, creative and engaging works, by using the worst gear we have. Leave the professional gear in the storage container, this challenge will be filmed using cell phone cameras, digital cameras that have never gotten a ‘best of the year’ award, Polaroids and vhs decks with lenses. Edit it in the most simplistic way you can think of, Movie Maker, iMovie, paint, etc.
Here is the challenge. It is short, so get to it and participate.
Theme:
Repeat. Creative.
- Create a up to 30 second video clip, or up to 5 images to express this
- Feel free to use these two songs by Samantha Murphy and Rob Giles (who have been nice enough to let us use their songs without the treat of suing our asses to the moon). The two songs are “Flowersandfireflies” by Samantha Murphy and “You’re Not Listening” by Rob Giles. Both musicians are great friends and kick ass folks.
- Tag the project as ‘NoGear+Me’ wherever you post them
It is due this Friday, February 15th before midnight. Post your NoGear+Me project on your blog and link to it in the comments or send it to me and I will post it.
Anything I missed? Let’s do this!
