The Wild Gift

Wild Gift I just got an email from one of my favorite nonprofits- The Wild Gift. I was a recipient of two wonderful and life changing adventures in 2002-2003.

They want to change the world by funding the leaders of tomorrow with astonishing wilderness trips and a project launchpad, rewarding social innovation.

From their email:

Wild Gift recipients are given grants (up to $12,500 each) to support projects that benefit the natural environment and human communities.  Wild Gift recipients are also awarded a three-week trek in Idaho’s Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, where they refine their projects by working with mentors and classmates.  At the end of the funding year, each class of recipients reunites with other Wild Gift alumni for a whitewater kayaking trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.

Past recipients have used Wild Gift funding to launch a solar design firm in India, a nature-writing program for urban youth in San Diego, a sustainable chicken farm in Arkansas, and a green real estate development company in
Boston (just to name a few).

The application is due April 1 and can be found at the Wild Gift website (http://www.wildgift.org/).  You’ll also find an interactive map of past recipients and their projects, as well as a new video with footage from last year’s trips.

If this sounds like fun to you, apply!
